I don’t necessarily get the point of blogging anymore. It’s weird because since 1997, I was blogging like crazy. However, I’m not sure people still read anymore, besides the opening tag line.
I also don’t necessarily understand stand alone websites. Don’t most people use Facebook or Twitter to do most of their communicating? I keep wondering that even though I subscribe to a lot of RSS feeds, if words have gone the way of the dinos.

I have heard that the bulk of internet traffic is still text, so the strength of words is…strong lol. But writing is not talking i dont know of many(real) authors being good broadcasters and vise versa. I think the problem most people have is finding the jems. I didn’t know Alachia until a certain BvS review =). Or maybe you’ve outgrown a blog and have settled on larger ideas that may be better explored in the form of a novel? Just a thought…

Hi Alachia. I think Gregory Thomas is right, there are a lot of words online. But you also have a point: words as dinosaurs, wow! It does seem like video can be awfully compelling. Not necessarily compelling as in “powerful ideas,” but compelling as in “we love to watch.”
“Don’t most people use Facebook or Twitter to do most of their communicating?”
It pains me to say that you’re right. But I also think that’s worth resisting. In the 20th century a whole lot more people sat on their couch drinking beer and watching other people play basketball on TV than ever actually played basketball. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t worth bothering to actually play basketball. Maybe playing your own crappy basketball on the asphalt court down the street was better than watching Kobe or whoever do great things on TV.
Yes, it’s a Facebook, YouTube, et al, world. That is pretty cool in some ways. But it’s also feels like old media colonizing new media. I do think YouTube is really powerful, but it’s nice to have a website. An old fashioned watering hole that wasn’t designed by Mark Zuckerberg and doesn’t have to look exactly like everyone else’s.

it’s funny. I wrote that awhile ago. I don’t even agree with it anymore. These days I long to find websites where people take the time to write out their thoughts and share their ideas in long form.
However, thinking back on it, I was probably starting to become irked by what people called “blogs”.. a collection of collected images and quotes from the internet.. I think it really annoyed me and I was lashing out in regards to my distaste in the format of recycled ideas.
